Extending Balloons

Frequently a single balloon will not be able to fit all the words to be uttered by a character in your story. Perhaps a pause is needed before the next words. An extended balloon (a balloon with two or more text areas) is the solution. You can create extended balloons in two ways:

Creating an extended balloon via drag and drop:

  1. Select a balloon in the element well.
  2. Drag it onto your comic and over the balloon you want to extend.
  3. The balloon that will be extended shows an orange highlight:

  4. While it's in this highlighted state, drop the balloon on to the page. The balloon will extend the existing balloon.

Creating an extended balloon via option-dragging:

  1. Select the balloon you want to extend.
  2. While holding down the option key click and drag the balloon.
  3. A copy of the balloon is created and extends the first balloon as shown above.

Hint: extension balloons are always added to the end of the chain. You can't have multiple extension balloons connecting to a central balloon, as you can with tails. This is due to the linear nature of speech—the reader would be unsure which balloon came next.
